Leighton Reese Performance Group at Barber Motorsports Park
April 9, 2010

The Leighton Reese Performance Group is in Birmingham, Alabama at Barber Motorsports Park looking for their first podium of the 2010 Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series season.  After a difficult start at Daytona, the Las Vegas BikeFest / Mobil 1 / AirJax Corvette showed promise during the second race weekend at Homestead, capturing the pole position in qualifying and then finishing 6th after some minor difficulties resulted in an extra pit stop.

Barber Motorsports Park where Paul Edwards and Kelly Collins finished 3rd in 2009 is a track well-suited to the LRPG Corvette.   This was evident during the first practice sessions on Thursday when Edwards was second fastest on the track.  His teammate Scott Russell was also fast, trailing Edwards by less than a second with very little seat experience in the Corvette.

Russell took the lead position on Friday running practice times equivalent to Edwards and then qualifying the Corvette 5th on the grid, just eight tenths of a second behind the front row Mazdas.

Russell will start the 2 ¾ hour race on Saturday at 12:30pm CDT.  The race will be televised live on Speed.
